Difference b/w these two products:
1. WSS 3.0 – Free , Less features.( .NET framework : 2.0 / 3.5 )

2. MOSS 2007 – Client access license ($CAL) , GroupCAL’s . More features.

SHAREPOINT DEPLOYMENT
==============

1. Standalone: Box1 – install everything on one single machine – Max concurrent users : 300.
sql server + w3wp consume high amt of resources. CANNOT upgrade to farm from standalone. Remove everything then only you can add.
Web ed only works on standalone.

2. Webfarm deployment -
Network load balancing.
All Web Servers are synch with all applications. same configuration. load distributed – high response time.
Web ed doesnt work here

THREE TYPES OF FARM:
i. Small Farm: ( 2 boxes)
ii. Medium Farm: ( 3 to 5 boxes)
iii. Large Farm: ( 6 to 8 boxes)

Cannot have more than 8 boxes – excluding SQL Server.

How to determine which machine is part of FARM.

DNS Round robin does not take care of fail over
NLB : On the network interface properties – Install it – administrative console for managing clusters.
Works at two level : manual priority and then generic load factor redirection. This works at switch level
CLUSTER ID = eg: 1 and 2 NICS (Unicast – better performance) and .2 .3 .4 machines.

DOMAIN – multiple windows machine
CLUSTER – multiple MOSS server connected
WEBFARM – multiple web servers are connected.

INSTALLATION
====================

COMPLETE .s. – has everything – can work as Index server or QUERY server or BOTH.

WFE = Incomplete installation ( does not have some of the web services for indexing + ECS EcontentSearch?)
CS more heavy than WFE.

Index runs in the background and reads the content and pushes it in the database.

More number of WFE (4) + and less number (2)
WFE misses INDEX servers – since most users wish to access basic pages.
So pushed INDEX server at the back. (5,8)

NLB – priority should be

all WFE does not work!!! – atleast ONE Complete has to be there in the farm.
