Connector JDBC

November 23, 2007

Connection Pooling : clients to share a cached set of connection objects

To provide a unified connector based architecture for all AS provided services:like ~ JMS/JDBC/JAXR access.

Behind-the-scenes all these resources are connector resources

achieved via System resource adapters

system resource adapters are pre-installed/pre-configured and lazily loaded on first resource access

overhead in creating and destroying those objects by the database resource manager process

GlassFish Connector Architecture
improves the response time for the application to get, use and close the connection, as the actual connections to the data store are managed by the pool.

getConnection() gets an already open connection from the pool, and close() simply releases the connection object back to the pool
