The difference between applications that manage via

  • protocol adaptors :aware of the underlying protocol
  • connectors: are not aware of the protocol

Connectors
JMX specification defines a Remote Method Interface (RMI) connector that can use either the Java Remote Method Protocol (JRMP) or Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP). It also defines an optional generic connector that uses the JMX Messaging Protocol (JMXMP), which is based on TCP sockets. The specification also provides for user-defined protocols.
